The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that foreign nationals will not be issued driving licences to operate three-wheelers in Sri Lanka for the time being, adding that there are no plans to introduce a temporary permit for this purpose.

Meanwhile, Police Headquarters stated that all police stations have been instructed to take legal action against any foreigner found driving a three-wheeler without a valid Sri Lankan licence. Authorities also clarified that an international driving licence alone is not sufficient to legally drive a three-wheeler in the country.
