Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, has invited Indian investors and film producers to initiate new tourism ventures and carry out film projects in Sri Lanka.
He extended the invitation while delivering the inaugural address at an event organised yesterday (19) by the Indian High Commission in Colombo, aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Minister Herath emphasised that Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is undergoing significant growth, with the country expecting between 2.4 to 2.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of this year. He said collaboration with India — Sri Lanka’s largest tourism source market — would play a key role in achieving future targets.
Highlighting opportunities in hospitality, destination weddings, film tourism and religious travel, the Minister encouraged Indian stakeholders to take advantage of Sri Lanka’s growing tourism landscape and increasing demand from Indian travellers.
He noted that with strong air connectivity, cultural affinity and visa-free entry, Sri Lanka has become a top short-haul destination for Indian tourists. The Minister expressed confidence that the programme would pave the way for greater cooperation and new investments in the tourism sector.
