Three passengers attempting to smuggle “Kush” cannabis valued at approximately Rs. 40 million were arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by officers of the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau on Tuesday night (19).

The suspects — a 34-year-old from Colombo 12, a 26-year-old from Colombo 15, and a 26-year-old from Wellampitiya — are all employed as taxi drivers. They had arrived in the country on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-315 from Kuala Lumpur at around 8.30 p.m.

Police said the trio had successfully cleared all airport checks and were exiting the terminal when officers intercepted them. Upon inspection, four packages containing a total of 4.022 kilograms of Kush were discovered in their luggage.

The suspects are expected to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (20) as investigations continue.
