The Expenditure Head 130 of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government was approved today (19) during the fourth day of the Committee Stage Debate of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with a majority of 94 votes.
Following the debate, at around 6.10 p.m., MP Shanakkian Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) called for a division on the same expenditure head (130). During the vote, 103 votes were cast in favour, while 9 votes were recorded against it.
It was further noted that the remaining expenditure heads of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government were passed without a vote.
Meanwhile, the expenditure head of the Ministry of Labour, which was also taken up for debate today, was approved without a division.
In addition, Parliament granted approval today to a proposal to appoint a special parliamentary committee to investigate and report on the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without mandatory physical inspection, and to present recommendations on the matter.
