The National People’s Power (NPP) has officially established control over the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha today, more than six months after the Local Government (LG) election was held.

During the May LG election, no party or independent group secured the majority 50% seat requirement to form an administration, resulting in a prolonged period of uncertainty.

The NPP, which has now taken governing authority, won 23 seats at the election, while the remaining 24 seats were shared among the opposition parties. The new administration marks the end of the council’s extended power vacuum.
