The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the recommencement of construction for 74 bridges under the Rural Bridge Program, aiming to expedite completion and reduce public inconvenience.
Earlier, on 8 February 2021, the Cabinet had approved 326 bridge construction contracts to the State Development and Construction Corporation for projects across the island. By 2022, construction had not begun on 184 bridges, while 45 bridges had already been completed. The construction of 23 bridges has been assigned to the Road Development Authority.
The approval to recommence work on the remaining 74 bridges was presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to completing the projects efficiently.
