The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the amendment under the Shop and Office Servants (Regulation of Service and Remuneration) Act, allowing female employees above 18 years of age, engaged as food and beverage servers in commercial hotels and restaurants, to work after 6.00 p.m. and before 6.00 a.m.

This move aims to accommodate the operational needs of the hospitality industry while formalising protections for women working night shifts.

The Cabinet also approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Labour to submit the amended order—issued under Section 66 of the Act—to Parliament for approval. Once passed, it will be published in the Government Gazette.
