The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reported a steep fall in its financial performance, with profits for the third quarter of 2025 dropping to Rs. 3.58 billion, according to its latest financial statements.
The quarterly profit reflects an 85% decline compared to the Rs. 24.58 billion earned during the same period last year, and a 32.5% decrease from the Rs. 5.31 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
From January to September 2025, the CEB has posted a net loss of Rs. 9.58 billion — a 107% downturn compared to the Rs. 143.79 billion profit reported during the corresponding period in 2024.
The utility attributed the overall loss mainly to the heavy deficit of Rs. 18.47 billion incurred in the first quarter of 2025, which has severely affected its financial stability.
