Following a recent rise in incidents targeting foreign tourists, Kandy Tourist Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing a foreign woman while driving a three-wheeler in the Paragahadeniya area, under Mawathagama Police jurisdiction.

The arrest comes shortly after authorities detained a 23-year-old man in Thirukkovil for exposing himself and attempting to harass a female New Zealand tourist, highlighting growing concerns over the safety of visitors in the country.

Investigations, supported by CCTV footage, revealed that the Kandy suspect had been in hiding since the afternoon of November 16, reaching the Katugastota area before surrendering on November 17. A search of his residence in Mawathagama revealed that the suspect and some family members were reportedly drug addicts with previous legal cases linked to substance abuse.

Both the suspect and the three-wheeler involved in the incident have been handed over to Mawathagama Police for further legal proceedings. Authorities emphasized that vigilance and prompt action are being prioritized to ensure the safety and security of foreign tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
