The Supreme Court has postponed the verdict on Fundamental Rights petitions filed by 148 Chief Inspectors of Police (CIPs) challenging their 2019 promotions. The officers seek to nullify the promotions of 232 CIPs to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs), citing irregularities in the interview marking process.
The petitions were heard yesterday (17) before a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, and Justices Mahinda Samayawardena and Sampath Wijeratne.
The petitioners claimed that the marking procedure during the promotion examination violated the law and caused them severe injustice, arguing that their fundamental rights had been breached.
