A police sergeant and his son, who were arrested for assaulting a Sub-Inspector attached to the Trincomalee Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU), were remanded until the 18th by Trincomalee Acting Magistrate A. S. Mohamed Saheel yesterday (15).
According to police, the Sub-Inspector, who serves as the OIC of the TIU, was allegedly attacked with a knife, while property belonging to the unit was also damaged during the incident. The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at Ward 14 of the Trincomalee General Hospital.
The incident reportedly occurred at the official residence located within the old police complex in Trincomalee and the adjacent TIU office. In the B report submitted to court, police said the sergeant and his son had forcibly entered the premises before carrying out the assault.
Police further informed the court that the attack stemmed from an alleged affair between the injured Sub-Inspector and the daughter of the arrested police sergeant, which had led to the confrontation.
The Acting Magistrate, while ordering the suspects to be remanded, instructed police to submit a medical report on the injured OIC to court today.
