Speaking during the debate, the Minister stated that in contrast, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had spent only Rs. 14.9 million on eight foreign visits made during the past year.
He emphasized that the expenditure on overseas travel by previous Presidents had placed a significant burden on state finances, but the present administration has taken steps to drastically reduce such costs.
According to the Minister, the current President’s approach demonstrates a more disciplined and accountable use of public funds, reflecting the Government’s broader commitment to reducing wasteful expenditure.
