A man was killed and four others were injured after a stolen lorry collided with two motorcycles in Kandana last night (15), police said.
The victim has been identified as 43-year-old J. A. P. Hemantha, a resident of Uggalbada, Gampaha.
Police have arrested the suspect, a motor mechanic, who had stolen the lorry while it was parked outside a house on Maria Mawatha, Kandana. The owner and his employees had chased after the vehicle, but the suspect continued to flee towards Batagama without stopping.
During the escape, the lorry struck a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction before overturning and crashing into a wall. Three members of the same family are among the injured, according to police.
Residents apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Kandana Police.
