The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Australian national Alexandra Holt.
According to police, she collapsed in her room yesterday (14) and was rushed to the Negombo General Hospital. She passed away early this morning (15) while receiving treatment.
Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
