The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has urged the public to report any instances where banks or financial institutions charge unfair interest rates.

According to the CBSL, while it does not have the authority to directly issue directives to banks regarding the interest rates they charge, the bank can intervene and investigate if any discrepancies or unjust practices are reported.

The public can lodge complaints related to unfair interest rates through the Consumer Protection Department by calling the 1935 hotline.

The CBSL also noted that it regularly publishes official interest rate guidelines and updates for public awareness.
