The victim has been identified as Hewage Malki Dilrukshi, a Grade 10 student from Panwilatenna, Millagahamula. According to police investigations, the teenager had been in a romantic relationship with the suspect.
Investigators revealed that the former soldier had grown suspicious that the girl was involved with another person, leading to the fatal attack. It has also been discovered that the suspect had been living in a rented room at the victim’s residence for nearly a year.
Police said the man arrived at the student’s home on Friday night (14), stabbed her to death, and later hanged himself in a nearby tea estate.
