Speaking at an event at Temple Trees, Herath said that just as the number of workers going abroad is regulated, the Foreign Employment Bureau is being digitized to better monitor its officers.
He noted that currently, 78% of overseas workers are skilled laborers. “This year will mark the highest foreign exchange earnings in the country’s history,” he added.
The minister highlighted that the government’s goal is to reduce the number of citizens seeking work abroad, expand the domestic economy, and create more job opportunities within Sri Lanka.
