The decision has been taken by the National Police Commission (NPC). Despite the removal, Pathinayake will continue in his role as the Senior DIG in charge of the Central Province.
The NPC has approved the appointment of Senior DIG Sanjeewa Dharmaratne of the Western Province to fill the vacancy in the Police Administration Division. Dharmaratne is currently functioning as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), as IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya is on an overseas visit.
