The Department of Meteorology says the low-level atmospheric disturbance located to the east of Sri Lanka is still persisting, bringing unstable weather conditions across several regions.

Under its influence, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Northern, North-Central and Eastern Provinces. The Met Department warns that heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely in parts of the Northern Province and the Trincomalee District.

Meanwhile, several other areas of the island will experience showers or thundershowers Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is possible in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva Provinces.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
