Second reading of Budget 2026 passed in Parliament

The second reading of the 2026 Budget was approved in Parliament today with a majority of 118 votes.

A total of 160 MPs voted in favour, while 42 voted againstTwenty-two MPs were absent at the time of the vote.

Notably, opposition MPs Mano Ganesan, V. Radhakrisnan, P. Digambaram, and Jeevan Thondaman backed the Budget, citing the government’s proposed wage increase for estate sector workers as their reason for supporting the vote.

Meanwhile, MPs of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) abstained from voting during the second reading.
