Prevailing rainy conditions are expected to continue in the Northern and Eastern provinces due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance developing to the east of the island.

Showers may occur at times in Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district. 

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.  Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Ampara district during the early hours of the morning.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds:

Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction and speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar will be moderate. The other sea areas around the island will be slight.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
