A new political movement named Bahujana Balaya (People’s Power) was launched on Tuesday, aiming to unite young leaders across party lines and promote citizen-centered governance.

The initiative brings together young political figures from various parties representing a broad section of Sri Lanka’s population.

At its inaugural media briefing in Battaramulla, the group outlined plans to raise public awareness about what it described as the “short-sighted and misguided actions” of the current National People’s Power (NPP) government, while also presenting practical solutions to national challenges.

Organizers said Bahujana Balaya will prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusive policymaking, encouraging citizens to take a more active role in shaping the nation’s political and economic future.
