Heavy showers expected across most parts of Sri Lanka today

According to the forecast, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Kalutara and Ampara districts.

The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (12).

Showers are also expected in the Northern Province and Trincomalee district during the morning hours.

Misty conditions may prevail in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and Uva provinces and in the Ampara district during the early morning.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rain Conditions:

Showers or thundershowers are likely in the sea areas from Trincomalee to Mannar via Kankasanthurai, and at several other places around the island, especially during the afternoon or night.

Winds:

Winds will be north-easterly or variable, ranging between 20–30 kmph, increasing up to 40 kmph at times, particularly off the coast from Trincomalee to Mannar via Kankasanthurai.

Sea Conditions:

Moderate in the sea areas from Trincomalee to Mannar via Kankasanthurai.

Slight in other sea areas.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
