A 19-year-old Advanced Level candidate was hospitalized after reportedly jumping from the third floor of a school building in Bambalapitiya this afternoon (11), Bambalapitiya Police said.
The student, who is sitting for the A/L examination for the second time this year, is a Grade 13 student and a resident of Moratuwa. She sustained serious injuries to her legs and has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
According to police, the incident occurred approximately fifteen minutes before the Biology examination paper was scheduled to begin. Investigations revealed that the student had jumped from a short wall on the third floor of the school building. Eyewitnesses stated that her life was saved as she landed on a carpeted pathway, reducing the impact of the fall.
Police said that statements obtained from family members indicated the student had been experiencing fear and anxiety about sitting for the examination.
