The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to establish an Information Technology services subsidiary for the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) in a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s digitalization capabilities and enhancing competitiveness in the rapidly evolving banking sector.

The new entity, Bank of Ceylon Information Technology Solutions (Pvt) Ltd., will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank of Ceylon. It will provide a range of ICT solutions and services to improve the bank’s IT infrastructure and support ongoing digital transformation initiatives.

According to the proposal, the subsidiary will be responsible for implementing advanced digital banking solutions, modernizing core banking systems, and enhancing cybersecurity measures to ensure more efficient and secure customer services.

Authorities say the initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to fostering innovation and modernization within the state banking sector, aligning with global trends in digital finance.
