The Ministry of Health has drawn attention to the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in Sri Lanka’s private healthcare system, following the release of an audit report highlighting the need for fair pricing, standardized regulation, and improved patient care.
The report recommends introducing a fair and affordable fee structure and implementing a grading system for all private medical institutions across the country to ensure compliance, transparency, and accountability.
It further proposes the establishment of a formal regulatory framework to set, monitor, and evaluate healthcare standards at all registered private hospitals and clinics.
The audit also underscores the need to enforce minimum qualifications for both medical and administrative staff, ensure proper training, and maintain the quality of services provided to patients.
Additionally, the report calls for creating a formal complaint mechanism, including an online platform for the public to lodge grievances and track their resolution in a timely manner.
A senior Health Ministry official said the Minister has paid special attention to tightening supervision and regulation of private healthcare institutions to ensure patient safety and service integrity.
