According to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) data, air quality in several parts of the country has reached unhealthy levels, raising public health concerns.

The affected areas include Kaduruwela, Chilaw, Akaragama, Wanduragala, Digana, Madampagama, Hungama, Akkaraipattu, Kalawana, Mulliyawalai, Pannankandi, Adampan, Uppaveli, Jaffna, and Colombo.

Authorities warned that pollutant levels in these areas are high enough to pose health risks through prolonged exposure — particularly to children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions.

Health experts advised the public to take the following precautionary measures:

Limit outdoor activities, especially during morning and evening hours.

Keep doors and windows closed when air quality is poor.

Use masks or air purifiers where possible.

Seek medical advice if experiencing breathing difficulties or related symptoms.

Officials continue to monitor the situation and urge residents in affected regions to stay alert for health advisories issued by local authorities.
