The Sri Lankan athletics team that competed in the 23rd Asian Senior Athletics Championships returned to the country last night (10) after a remarkable performance that earned them 139 medals and the runner-up position in the overall standings.
The championship was held from November 5 to 9 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, India, with more than 4,000 athletes from 22 Asian countries taking part.
The Sri Lankan contingent’s strong showing marked one of the nation’s best performances in recent regional athletics history, bringing pride and recognition to the country on the international stage.
The team was warmly welcomed by sports officials and supporters upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, last night.
