The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory warning of severe lightning conditions affecting the Uva Province and the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota districts.

According to the advisory, the warning will be in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. today (10), with the possibility of thundershowers accompanied by strong localized winds in the affected areas.

The Department urges the public to take necessary safety precautions to minimize the risks and potential damages caused by lightning. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors during heavy thunderstorms and avoid using electrical appliances or staying under tall structures and trees during lightning activity.
