Another monk succumbs to injuries following Na-Uyana Monastery accident

Another monk receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Colombo has passed away following the tragic vehicle accident involving monks from the Malasiripura Na-Uyana Forest Monastery.

The incident occurred when a Dakkua (a type of truck) carrying 13 monks from the monastery in Malasiripura, Pansiyagama, overturned on September 23. Seven monks, including three foreign monks, were previously confirmed dead in the accident.

Police have confirmed that the deceased foreign monks were nationals of India, Russia, and Romania, aged between 27 and 47 years.

The latest death raises the total number of fatalities from the accident to eight. Investigations into the cause of the incident are continuing.
