The Prisons Department has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows an inmate, said to be an organized criminal, comfortably using a mobile phone inside a prison.
The footage also appears to show the inmate using drugs while scrolling through his phone, with another prisoner massaging his head nearby. Social media posts accompanying the video claim that the incident took place at the Boossa Prison.
However, when contacted by Ada Derana, a spokesperson for the Prisons Department said the Boossa Prison superintendent had confirmed that the video was not recorded inside Boossa Prison.
Despite this, the Prisons Department has directed the superintendents of the Boossa, Galle, and Angunakolapelessa prisons to submit immediate reports on the matter as part of the ongoing inquiry.
