The 2025 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) Examination commenced today (10) at 2,362 centers across the island, with a total of 340,521 candidates sitting for the exam, according to the Department of Examinations.
The Department stated that the examination will continue until December 5. Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage emphasized that all candidates must arrive at their respective examination centers at least one hour before the scheduled starting time.
Addressing the media yesterday (9), Ms. Liyanage urged candidates to remain vigilant and avoid engaging in any form of examination malpractice.
“Any candidate found guilty of such misconduct will face strict disciplinary action, including potential bans from future examinations for several years,” she said.
She further noted that all candidates must keep their faces and ears visible throughout the exam to confirm identity. Use of electronic devices, such as mobile phones, smartwatches, or electronic wristwatches, is strictly prohibited.
Candidates were also reminded to carefully manage their time and record answers only on the designated answer sheets, especially when answering multiple-choice questions.
They must bring their admission card and national identity card to the examination center without fail.
All new questions should begin on a new page. Instructions will be provided at examination centers, and candidates must ensure that their admission cards are duly signed,” she added.
The Commissioner General extended her best wishes to all students, hoping they would face the examination with a positive mindset and good mental health.
This year’s examination includes 246,521 school candidates and 94,000 private candidates. A total of 325 coordinating centers and 32 regional collection centers have been established to facilitate the conduct of the examination.
