According to the audit, under Section 14 of the agreement signed with the Secretary General of Parliament, occupants of these houses are required to pay electricity, water, and telephone charges on a timely and continuous basis. However, as of 31 December 2024, outstanding payments amounted to Rs. 637,539 for electricity, Rs. 590,860 for water, and Rs. 303,630 for telephone services. These amounts had not been recovered from former MPs.
Responding to the audit, the Chief Accounting Officer stated that the pending electricity charges pertain to 84 former MPs, water charges to 86 former MPs, and telephone charges to 83 former MPs. The officer added that these amounts should be differentiated from housing deposit money, and if any balance remains after adjusting the deposits, instructions have been issued to release it to the respective MPs.
The audit recommended that action should be taken to recover the outstanding amounts as per the agreement.
