Wattala police have arrested two suspects and seized a pistol-type firearm along with a magazine of ammunition during an operation carried out in the Alwis Town Junction in Wattala.
According to police, officers had been pursuing a car that continued to drive despite an order to stop. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the firearm and magazine were found hidden beneath the driver’s seat.
During questioning, the driver revealed that the weapon was being transported to be handed over to another individual. Following this information, a second suspect was arrested in the Mabola area.
Both suspects are 33-year-old residents of Jaffna.
