The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (November 9).

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in certain areas of the Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Ampara District.

Morning showers are also possible in parts of the Western and Southern Provinces and the Puttalam District.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions against possible damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather Forecast (Next 24 Hours):

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. A few showers may also occur in other sea areas during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-westerly with speeds ranging from 20–30 km/h, while sea conditions around the island are expected to remain slight. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
