According to the Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the North-western, Uva, Central, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura, Mannar, Ampara, and Hambantota districts.
It further noted that temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.
The public has been urged to take adequate safety precautions to minimize the risk of lightning-related damages. People are advised to remain indoors and avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
Additionally, the Department cautioned against using wired telephones and electrical appliances connected to the power supply during lightning activity.
