The Court of Appeal has issued a writ order preventing the Gampola Divisional Secretary from obstructing the construction work of Sri Lanka’s first cable car project in the Ambuluwawa area.

Delivering the ruling yesterday (07), Justice Gihan Kulatunga also ordered the Divisional Secretary to pay Rs. 100,000 in legal costs to the petitioner, Amber Adventure (Pvt) Ltd, the company undertaking the project.

Amber Adventure (Pvt) Ltd had filed a writ petition claiming that despite having obtained all required approvals from relevant government institutions, the Divisional Secretary had intervened and hindered the progress of the project.

Appearing for the petitioner, President’s Counsel Ali Sabry argued that the project site falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), and therefore, the Divisional Secretary had no legal authority to interfere.

The petition further stated that due to the said interference, the company was unable to complete the project within the planned schedule, prompting the call for judicial intervention.
