Former CH and FC captain Rohitha Rajapaksa has taken over as head coach of the Maitland Crescent Club ahead of the upcoming Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament, replacing veteran coach Sanath Martis. Last season’s Plate champions will kick off their campaign against Police SC on November 16 at the Race Course Grounds.

Rajapaksa revealed that the club is currently exploring their options to sign a foreign player to strengthen the squad.

“Sri Lanka Rugby has given us a few options, including the possibility of obtaining players from New Zealand,” he said.
“We have also been in talks with Stefano Cacau, who could fit in as a Number 8 or centre from Fiji. Discussions have also taken place with senior coaches in Fiji, but we need SLR approval to proceed.”

CH and FC will be led once again by Janidu Dilshan, following his impressive form last season, while Danushka Malitha and Maliksha Perera have been named co-vice captains.

However, the club faces a challenge after losing half of their forward pack from last year. They will be boosted by the return of hooker Prasanth Madushanka, alongside new signings Raveena Fernando and W. Samitha from CR and FC.

Rajapaksa stressed that maintaining consistency in the squad will be key this season:
