The International Labour Organization (ILO) has pledged full support for Sri Lanka’s efforts to develop its national care plan.
ILO Country Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Joni Simpson, described the care economy as a key part of social well-being, economic growth, and gender equality.
She said the ILO will assist through its 5R Framework for Decent Care Work — Recognize, Reduce, Redistribute, Reward, and Represent — to ensure that care work is properly valued and supported through fair and inclusive policies.
The Inter-Ministerial Working Group will now collect feedback from ministries, social partners, care providers, and the public. The final National Care Roadmap and Action Plan are expected to be completed and launched in 2026.
