Two people were injured when a three-wheeler carrying a family skidded off the road and crashed into a telephone pole on the Upkat–Hatton main road yesterday (06), the Hatton Police said.
The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. near the Dikoya Wanaraja Watta Tea Factory when the three-wheeler, reportedly travelling at high speed, lost control and hit the pole before coming to a halt.
There were four family members in the vehicle at the time. The driver and his wife, who was seated in the back, sustained injuries and were admitted to the Dikoya Base Hospital for treatment.
The three-wheeler was severely damaged in the crash.
Police have urged motorists to exercise extra caution on central hill roads, noting that slippery conditions caused by the prevailing rainy weather have increased the risk of accidents in the area.
