The Expressway Traffic Police have arrested a tipper driver who fled after causing damage exceeding Rs. 1 million to the safety fence on the Southern Expressway.

According to police, the driver crashed the vehicle into the safety fence, damaging 13 iron posts, while driving from Galle towards Colombo on October 26. The incident occurred near the 17th kilometre post in the Galanigama–Kolamediriya area.

Despite the crash, the driver continued without stopping. However, a civilian on the Kolamediriya bridge recorded the incident on a mobile phone and handed the footage over to police, leading to the suspect’s arrest nine days later.

The arrested suspect, a resident of Anamaduwa, has been handed over to the Bandaragama Police to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
