The Department of Meteorology forecasts that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for evening thundershowers across most parts of Sri Lanka today (November 6).

According to the forecast, several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Galle districts. Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several other areas after 2.00 p.m.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, in the sea areas around the island, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several places off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. A few showers or thundershowers may also develop in other coastal areas during the evening or night.

Winds will be westerly or north-westerly at speeds of 25–35 kmph, increasing up to 55–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

The seas in these regions are expected to be rough at times, with swell waves rising up to 2.0–2.5 meters, potentially causing nearshore surges. Other sea areas will remain slight to moderate, the Met Department added.
