Sri Lanka has taken a significant step towards reinforcing its copyright framework by appointing a special committee to review and strengthen the legal status of publication rights within the country’s intellectual property system.

The initiative comes in response to global developments in copyright law and the growing importance of protecting creative works—particularly within the music industry.

According to official sources, the newly appointed committee comprises representatives and subject matter experts from several key ministries. Its primary responsibility is to identify existing legal challenges and propose practical measures to modernize the current copyright regime.

A major focus area of the committee’s mandate will be addressing complex issues related to publication rights in the music sector, ensuring that Sri Lankan laws remain aligned with international standards and effectively safeguard the rights of artists and creators.
