The Sri Lanka Navy seized two dinghies carrying approximately 38 kilograms of Kerala cannabis during a search operation in the Uchchamunai Lagoon, Kalpitiya, on November 4.

The operation, conducted by SLNS Vijaya under the Northwestern Naval Command, was part of the Navy’s continuous coastal surveillance and anti-narcotics efforts carried out in coordination with the “Nation United” National Mission.

During the operation, naval personnel intercepted two suspicious dinghies and recovered 18 parcels of Kerala cannabis, with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 8 million.

The seized narcotics and the dinghies were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau in Puttalam for further legal action.

The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to curbing drug smuggling and protecting future generations from the growing narcotics threat through sustained vigilance and enforcement operations across the island’s coastal areas.
