Sajith meets Lok Sabha Speaker to boost parliamentary ties

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa held discussions with Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, during an official meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation between the Parliaments of Sri Lanka and India.

The meeting focused on deepening parliamentary collaboration, sharing procedural expertise, and strengthening institutional professionalism. Both parties also discussed opportunities to expand legislative research initiatives and promote greater youth engagement in parliamentary activities.

They agreed to pursue structured exchange programmes, study visits, and capacity-building initiatives to support ongoing reforms and modernization efforts within their respective legislative bodies.

The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to democratic values, transparency, and ensuring the integrity of parliamentary processes.

Following the meeting, Premadasa was provided a guided tour of the new Lok Sabha Complex, which features fully digital, paperless operations and modern legislative facilities designed to enhance efficiency in parliamentary administration.
