A businessman was shot dead near the Ambalangoda Urban Council premises this morning (4).
Police Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler, said the incident took place around 10.30 a.m., when a group of assailants arrived in a white car, opened fire, and fled the scene.
The victim, a fishmonger, was rushed to the Balapitiya Hospital with gunshot injuries but later succumbed to his wounds.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the victim was the husband of the elder sister of a man known as “Karandeniya Sudda,” believed to be a member of an organized crime gang.
The spokesman said that four police teams have been assigned to carry out further investigations into the shooting.
