The Colombo High Court has scheduled the hearing of the bail application filed by Samarappulige Niraj Roshan, alias Ali Roshan, who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for possessing an elephant without a valid license, for December 15.

The application was taken before a bench comprising High Court Judges Manjula Thilakaratne and Lanka Jayaratne.

During the proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, sought court permission to file objections to the bail application. The bench accordingly directed that any objections be filed by November 28.

The court further ordered that the bail application hearing be conducted on December 15.

Ali Roshan, convicted by a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court, was sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for unlawfully possessing an elephant. He has since appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court and has now sought bail pending the outcome of that appeal.
