Motorists traveling along the Colombo-Kandy main road should anticipate traffic delays as construction work for a new bridge under the Central Expressway Project gets underway.
According to the Police Media Division, the bridge near the Kadawatha-Bandarawatta area will be built in two phases, running from 1st November 2025 to 31st January 2026. During the first phase, one lane of the two-lane road from Kadawatha-Bandarawatta to Colombo will be closed. The second phase will see a lane from Kandy to Colombo closed as construction continues.
Authorities have warned that congestion is likely throughout the project period and are urging drivers to consider the Kadawatha Outer Ring Road as an alternative route to minimize travel delays.
