His visit will continue until November 8 and is considered a moment of significant diplomatic and spiritual value for Sri Lanka.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Archbishop Gallagher’s visit takes place on the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Mr. Wijitha Herath, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Holy See.
During his stay, Archbishop Gallagher is expected to meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and hold official discussions with Foreign Minister Wijitha Herath.
A special commemorative ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties will be held at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, where Archbishop Gallagher will deliver a keynote address.
His itinerary also includes visits to several sites of cultural and religious importance across the country, including churches affected by the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
