The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to launch an extensive investigation into the assets of senior police and military officers, according to the reports.

Initially, the probe will focus on high-ranking officials, with plans to later include lower-ranking personnel. The investigation is also expected to extend to other key government agencies, including the Department of Prisons, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

It was reported that CIABOC is considering recruiting additional staff on a contractual basis to assist in documenting and managing the large volume of cases, as the commission’s current workforce is insufficient for the task.

The move comes following reports indicating that certain officials within the police, armed forces, and other state institutions may have connections to organised criminal networks.
